Pentax is part of the international Asahi optical group based in Japan and initially marketed, distributed and serviced photographic products. Since then they have diversified their optical products into other areas and there are now four other divisions, each of which is divided into finished goods, spare parts and service.

Pentax UK, have, since their establishment in 1979, gradually extended their activities into an ever increasing range of optical product applications. There are currently five divisions each with thousands of product catalogue entries which are subject to constant changes. To achieve the updating of this product information rapidly and effectively and also to draw together key information from which various business decisions can be made, Pentax have gradually introduced the DISTRiX software throughout their various divisions.

Sales Order Processing

Pentax are now using DlSTRiX to process customer orders. These are received by fax, phone, EDI, letter and also through the sales representatives. When an order is placed DlSTRiX checks a clients credit limit and other required information. It will handle different currencies and convert using the appropriate exchange rate held within the system, it will also process credit notes on goods received back from the customer. Stock availability is checked, on line, and if necessary put on back order; the user can produce a picking list and despatch note if required. Once a despatch note has been confirmed an invoice is raised and the information posted to the DlSTRiX sales ledger and monitored.

Assists Business Decisions

DISTRiX has been designed to draw key information from which business decisions are required to be made. The software provides a wide range of functionality through the entire sales and inventory cycles. It is competitively priced and has been designed and shaped by Dataday to fit a wide range of product types.

Easy To Use

Says Desmond Hutchings of Pentax "In close collaboration with Dataday, DlSTRiX has been introduced throughout our various divisions centrally and to the specific requirements of those divisions. The flexibility of DlSTRiX made it one of a very small number of systems which would enable us to do this. It is easy to access, understand and operate together with being faster than other systems I have seen". Des went on "Installing DlSTRiX throughout our divisions was a daunting project particularly with the thousands of components involved but with the close co-operation between Pentax and Dataday it was all achieved relatively smoothly and in good time". DISTRiX has been designed to draw key information from which business decisions are required to be made. The software provides a wide range of functionality through the entire sales and inventory cycles. It is competitively priced and has been designed and shaped by Dataday to fit a wide range of product types.
